Hidden Gems

I have been living in London, Ontario for about 6 years now, and I am still finding marvelous little coffee shops, local farmer's markets with beautiful produce, and small business that are showing London all that they have to offer! Here I will attempt to share my secret (or not-so-secret) little hidden gems that make London a unique and exquisite place to live.

If you have any amazing hidden gems that you would like to share, please don't hesitate to email me with some deets and I'll make sure to share them with the world!

I spent many days and nights studying here.Their coffee is delicious and their food is not far behind. With a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, you can curl up with a book or play a game of chess in a comfy leather chair. It is not as busy as some other coffee shops, which makes it ideal for studying and there is also free wireless!

Open year round this market has everything you need. Bakery, deli, sushi, fish and chips, cheese, coffee, cupcakes and so on and so on. Although the produce can be a bit pricey, you can feel good about supporting local businesses. My favourite place is The Tea Haus. You can go and order a pot of tea and sit outside the store and enjoy it! There are so many different flavours you can try and the staff are very knowledgeable and can help you out with anything. There is also delicious fresh pizza dough (which I will mention numerous times throughout my recipes) at the International Bakery and a wide assortment of cheese at Smith Cheese Inc. (if you are looking for a certain type of cheese, I guarantee you will find it there).

One of my favourite places to visit. I went there recently to take some pictures and document some facts, more details will follow! In the mean time, check out the website posted above.

This market is only open Saturdays 7-5pm and it is located on the east outskirts of London. But boy oh boy is it ever worth the drive! There are flee markets and furniture stores that are open more often and year round but the peak season for produce is spring through early fall. I am not even slightly kidding, this place is insane. The food is coming straight from the farm to the consumer and the prices are unbeatable. There are also live animals. Yep.. live. So if you are looking for a chicken, or a goat, you can find it there. Read more...

United Supermarket
This grocery store is not your average Loblaws or Metro. Primarily Asian inspired with some South American flare, this store definitely has something different to offer. From exotic produce to the fresh fish market, I guarantee you will see something new.  Read more...

Western Fair Market
This market is only open Saturdays from 8-3pm and if you go later in the day, the deals start getting even better. There is a coffee shop and a flee market upstairs, but what I go for is the cheap and beautiful produce. While you are there, be sure to try an apple fritter at The Dutch Bakery, but beware...one is sometimes not enough.
